The Best New Fonts of 2012 (So Far)
11I love fonts! Hands down, scrolling through gobs of new fonts is one of my biggest time-killers (second only to Facebook). From a creative standpoint, fonts are a major driver of design for me. Often, I look for the right font prior to any other design element.
This collection includes some of the recent entries into the 2012 font foray that caught my eye. These designs range from clean sans serifs to gorgeous serifs and even some nice script fonts. Examining them as a whole (and comparing them to older fonts) could reveal some nascent typography trends.
Not all of these are free, but all of these new fonts are worth a closer look. Let me know which ones you add to your collection!

Nice list, but I wouldn’t call some of these new… Optima is from the 1950’s. Still, a handy reference. Thanks for the links!
Thanks. Now I’m not going to get any work done for a while. Also, I think the fact I looked at the Scriptina font and said, “Hey, that looks like Zapfino,” makes me a Geek with a capital “G!” Nice list!
A nice selection, but it immediately struck me that Raleway is not a new font at all, it has been around for some years. Why include it in the list?
Optima reminds me of the old CG Omega… what ever happened to that font?
Benguiat (and all of its variants), Bernhard (the sample you show looks like Bernhard Modern), Optima, and Scriptina all have been around for quite a while now as well.
Thank you. This looks awesome!
I like them all! But most definitely, what attracted me most were the simple fonts that are within the serif and sans-serif families. Are these already downloadable for free?
Creative font collections are awesome and Font makes a website to new look. Thanks for sharing..
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I hate it when blogs post the “Best new fonts of 20xx” then none of them turn out to be free. You’re a savior.
Is there a place to type the words you want and show them in various fonts? I am trying to find the right font for my logo words.
Most font websites — like dafont and 1001freefonts — allow you to type whatever you want into a preview box to see how your message will appear in that font.
